Looking at the specs for the belts the only difference I could see was that the first one was a pack of 10 and the second a pack of 50.

I replaced it last September along with the tensioner with a genuine one after it snapped. The belt snapped again yesterday and the car has not done more than about 8k miles since. Going for a Gates belt this time as in the past on all my other vehicles over the years I've always used Gate with no issues.

All good, all running true bearing all good and running silently, at least now I have the Gates on it. Was squealing like a pig for weeks leading up to the breakage but no matter how much I looked and checke I could see nowt wrong and didn't want to believe it was going to fail given it was all genuine Volvo stuff. Clearly in my case at least the manufacturing QC has failed

......I'd see just how long the new one lasts first.
There is definitely something where are very few cars are more prone to throwing the aux belt. I've known of one that's done it 3 times.

Unfortunately my aux. belt has just failed at 88K on my '12 plate D3 (5cyl).
The original was changed at 4 years and approx. 50k miles. Unfortunately this has taken out the cambelt which in turn has trashed the head. Repair cost is £3400 which includes a refurb head. When trying to explain this to the missus she asked the sensible question, “why does a small belt failing cause so much damage? Why isn’t this prevented from happening by a cover or something?”. I couldn’t answer this!!
