Smile Throttle actuator body failure- VEA 2ltr xc60

Stripping back the part we took off to replace, the Czech made unit (part 31293930) used I think on xc60 between 2014 and 2017, S60, and on 2017 xc90, it appears the throttle flap was not sooted up and seized at all. It appears that water ingress was the issue.

The unit is at the front of the engine, and the mechanic suspected moisture in the control unit caused the failure from what we could see.

Pose the question, would duct tape around the sides of the unit stop water ingress as the unit is quite obviously not water tight....?

I for one have made the upgrade already with 10p worth of duct tape to make this poor grade component last a few years !!

Not a great fan of duct tape for exposed situations. There are nautical true waterproof tapes used for sail repairs etc. I have used Gorilla Transparent waterproof tape and can confirm it is a true waterproof tape having used it on ripped tarpaulins, it far out performs duct tape for exposure to UV and rain.
