I will keep you posted if I encounter this problem.

I am really happy that I've found this forum - tons of useful info for a Volvo newbie as me It looks like Volvo owners are quite helpful group of people Thanks for your replies!

Best
I may be wrong, although I think supermarkets have a higher content of bio diesel. I dont like supermarket fuels, and have found in the past that mpg is reduced when using supermarket fuel compared to branded fuels.

I think its also that bio diesel does not evaporate so builds up, hence the rise in the oil?

Bacically ,If the dealer "modifies the vehicle "!! what they do is hook it to a computer reset the electronic oil level indicator on the instrument panel , drain if necessary the engine oil to the "New lower level" the instrument panel will still show full on the instrument panel , but you will have less oil in the engine sump , I was told there is a half a litre less in the sump ,but , don't quote me , so if you have the oil changed by a non franchise dealer don't go by the Handbook or their data check with a Franchise dealer the capacity.
The reason why they don't want the engine oil level to increase as already said is because the engine will not only run so you can't switch it off it will rev, like hell and will do so until it burns off excess oil ,believe me it would scare the pants off you ,I was in the motortrade and once well over filled an engine with engine oil and the engine being a diesel ran on the oil at high revs, incidently this happening to you will not happen it's very rare , and don't forget whatever car you buy (diesel ) has this as far as I know !

May be a stupid idea but wouldn't a 'regen in progress' warning light resolve so many issues?

The issue is in the title of the thread, Rising Oil Levels which you will notice everytime you check the oil level - assuming that you do.

Even under warranty you need to check the oil level since if it is low or high and damage occurs then the ensuing damage could be attributed to you as the maintainer and then the warranty would be void. You fill up the windscreen washers between services, you check the tyres, the need to check the oil level is in the same league as these items
you would be surprised at how many people driving volvos do not ! They never open the bonnet from one service to the next . run around with empty washers until they are passing the garage , run around on tyre pressures at 25 psi with 40 section tyres , also with punctures on the rear as they do not look flat due to stiff tyre walls and low weight on them . There are 2 or 3 months of dirt on the bodywork , bulbs blown ...wiper blades streaky .. Brake pads low despite them being pointed out on a previous occasion .. they wait for them to go to the metal in some cases ... I daresay this happens with other makes of car too of course ...

Given that the Volvo engines don't seem to like bio diesel, I wonder how they'd behave with this green (err blue(?)) diesel from Audi http://www.gizmag.com/audi-creates-e...rom-co2/37130/

Just happened to me during the week, would dpf removal and remap cure this? Since Volvo can't? Definitely not happy with the response from dealer saying this just happens and we sucked some oil out.

it is illegal to remove , There is something wrong if a dealer cant fix it ! try another dealer ... remember a dealer is not Volvo, it is their agent .. skills should be the same worldwide but they are not of course .
