Rear Left side brake pad and disk excessive wear
Hi Guys
I noticed the rear left brake pads are wearing out excessively fast . I've got electronic parking brake but the motors are on both rear sides. So shouldn't really be that I've read on some forums uneven brake wear is common to Volvo's. But I can't accept that. Having changed the pads this morning. I noticed that the left rear side was harder to press back in that the right side. Which would be indicative of a stuck caliper. Anyone had similar problems on theirs . Mines a 12 V60 |

Have only had one set of rear pads and discs in 95k but in my case it was the off side that had the uneven wear. Not a clue why apart from perhaps being a bit sticky and not fully releasing. Still odd as the nearsides have to deal with more edge of road crud than the offsides. Will be interesting if it's the same next time.
Still on same front discs with second set of pads about 12 months ago so I happy with the brakes as well. |

V60 on a 12 plate but you don't say how many miles.
I started having problems with my old S60 MY05 D5 at about 80+k miles. The calipers started sticking and the Volvo approved dealers were worse than useless. Once the calipers start sticking ignore anyone who says they can fix it with some grease and exercise. Bin it, and replace it. It's not cheap to replace the caliper but cheaper in the long run if you plan to keep the car than constant maintenance.

Calipers can be refurbished at a reasonable cost... I've used Bigg Red quite a times in the last decade (although not for my Volvo). Unlike other companies they don't carry refurbished stock, so you do need to send them your caliper for refurbishment but their turnaround is very fast, last year they managed a next-day turnaround on one of my Toyota calipers (admittedly it does help that I live fairly near their Worcester premises and can avoid postal delays). Or they sell refurbishment kits for you to fit yourself.
