Default XC90 D5 163 - Intake manifold intake hose wet

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far!

So, this is the current state of the hose to the intake manifold on my XC90 D5 163 (183,000 miles).

  1. I presume this is not normal?
  2. What part needs to be replaced, if any?
  3. Is that an abnormal amount of wetness within the intake plumbing? I've had a quick look at the hoses to and from the intercooler and everything appears dry, including just upstream of the wetted hose.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Considering the mileage and the number of years it has never been washed that looks quite acceptable , why not clean it all off with brake cleaner and see where it is all coming from , It is only a very minor leak which has been neglected

Thanks, Clan.

I'll give it a clean and see how things go from there.

I was kind of hoping I had found the source of the hissing which I've been hearing, which happens when the engine is stone cold.

Hmm... I have the exact same noise and I am pretty sure its a vacuum leak. My front engine Mount has gone bad and I am almost certain the leak is from there. Do you also get limp mode when accelerating too hard?

Cheers

I have been very gentle on the throttle since Day 1 of ownership, which was about 3 months ago, having self-diagnosed a leaking engine mount(s) from the popping sound at the oil filler neck after the test drive. Having read up on the potential issues it may cause, I've kept on the safe side, so no limp home mode, yet.

I tried blanking the vacuum supply to the engine mounts to see if the hissing went away, but didn't notice any change in that area (although vibration from the engine was more prominent). Perhaps you could try something similar and report the findings?

Not sure, haven't had a scan since purchase. Sorry.

Have you gone through the thread below, yet?

It's a long read, but very informative.
