Default BLOODY MOT's

Sorry for shouting people , been a touchy day at work

Please read the attachment , it is the latest from Government / DVSA regarding MOT testing

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavi...tent=immediate

You may well find your favourite testers still hard at it , defying the odds & failing cars with careless abandon . If you can get it done now rather than at the end of the 6 month grace period , do so or you will be at the end of a very long line of people urgently needing an MOT test

Stay safe & well

My reading of the Government website implies that all MOTs after March 30th will get a 6 month extension

What you need to do
You do not need to do anything to extend your vehicle’s MOT expiry date if it’s on or after 30 March 2020. However, you must keep your vehicle safe to drive.
Your vehicle will be automatically given a 6-month MOT exemption. This will extend your current MOT expiry date by 6 months.
to me there's no finish date on the exemption eg 'if your MOT is due from March to September' so any MOT from now to March 2021 gets an extension.

Using the .gov tax and MOT checker my car still shows the original date (next January) so not automatically updated yet, like a lot of stuff at the moment information is taking time to catch up with the latest changes and clarity is sometimes lacking. As my MOT is a long way off I figure I'll recheck later in the year and see what their record says, maybe mine will become due in July 21 to allow for the backlog. I appreciate that's not much help if your MOT falls due soon and is not much help to MOT testers and garages trying to keep their business turning over in difficult times.

My daughter who works in a large Opticians chain had similar incident today, a customer needs an eyetest for his driving licence but all eyetests are off, DVSA is virtually uncontactable so he's left in limbo.

Keep fighting the good fight Dingo and hopefully we'll make it out of the other end of this mess.

My Mot is due 2nd April. I'm more than happy to wait. Cars safe and I like excuses not to drive to the office. All warnings are in Japanese, but the light goes out when I press the read button so can't be that bad

Doh!
In my defence it's a stressful time not least because I do still have to actually go in to work and when I get there the levels of dumbfoolery are beyond belief, but I'm back home now so stuff 'em.

Update to earlier comment on eyetests- apparently they are allowed to do them for 'Essential Workers', I suppose if the optician stands by the chart and the patient at the other end of the room that's social distancing.

Hi Dingo
That's answered a question I was pondering over. The V70 with no badges is in Jump Leads at the minute, nothing serious. Will book a test next month as usual.
regards Pete

Would like to say people , I know you have a 6 month grace period for your MOT , but please try & get it done ASAP , when this situation ends there will huge numbers of people all trying to get tests performed & I for one am dreading that moment .

I can foresee large backlogs occurring

Er, no there won't. Any MOT expiring for the year starting 1st April will get a 6 month extension after expiry. Everyone. That means my MOT will still run out 3 months before yours, 1 month after someone elses, etc. They won't all become due on the same day. Everyone's expiry date will still hear the same relation to everone else's. It'll simply be as if time stood still for 6 months, and the moment it unfreeze everyone will be in the same situation as before.

There's been some confusion around this....

I *think* -

- The six month extension is applied as the old MOT expires, so it might not show until the last minute.

- If your previous MOT expires on the 29th March or before (or has already expired) you will not get an extension - your car will still need to pass an MOT test before you can drive it again.
