In the spirit of fairness, given how much stick Chris Knott seem to have had on this thread, I just thought I'd post that I have today arranged the insurance for my XC60 through them.

Excellent customer service from Ian Willis at CK (and one of his colleagues, Kathy West, when I called to chase something).

They matched the excess, included the Polestar upgrade and beat my best quote by £30.

Has there been any improvements on your classic policy requirements?

My 1990 760 Turbo diesel is coming up for renewal again, and I would like to move to Chris Knott insurance, as Footman James's customer service and benefits are declining each year. Last year I couldn't get a quote from Chris Knott because my car didn't fit the criteria for the following reasons (although does for Footman James):

- Too new (25yrs old)
- Not rare enough (only 32 on the road according to howmanyleft.com)
- Not stored in a garage
- Used regularly (10,000 miles per year)

Hi, this is a definite chink in our armour due mainly to the garaging issue and it's something our Motor Manager is reviewing with insurers to see if we can negotiate a relaxation in their requirements.

Whether we'll have that ironed out before your renewal I don't know. We'll keep members posted of any developments for sure.

Must say, I spoke to Rebecca today who was very helpful, not only did she match my already very good quote from Admiral, she actually beat it by about £60 with all my modifications properly declared.

Definitely worth the move to Chris Knotts, it was nice saying my car has a remap without trying to explain to an Indian that a remap is not a suspension change, nor is it a chip that goes on the side of the engine.

Will be ringing up to confirm in the next few days

Well after seemingly endless calls to various companies (many I've used in recent years but some new) to get the V70R back on the road, it looks like I've got a deal!

Most classic insurers wanted it to be at least 20 years old (it's 1998), and the ones who would quote could only offer up to a 5000 mile annual limit.

Modern policies were sky high, as I've just turned 25 (and not seen the big drop in premiums I was expecting, even being told today it was because I'm 'only just' 25!) and as I'm not going to use it as my every day car, I can't use my 6 years NCB on quotes.

Just got off the phone with Kim at Chris Knott, and they're covering me for £445 on a modern policy (so it can earn its own NCB) fully comp. Very helpful, and VOC get a few quid out of the deal as well!

Left my details online, got a message saying "we called the number you supplied and there was no answer (please check your voicemail)" No missed calls, no message. The number is correct and there in black and white - hardly confidence inspiring.
