I struggle to separate Saab and Volvo in my affections. Saab was my first love but the affection has diminished over the years, I own neither now but suspect I feel more affinity with Volvo. Today. This may change tomorrow.

I've never had a Saab (Ive never had Ulrika either, sadly).

My brother had a 93 and loved it. He loved it a bit less when I pointed out his numberplate started with KN03.

Me: nice car, I see you've put private plates on it

Him:?

Me: look at it again, knob

Him:..... *#@*

Me: just know that everytime you take that out, someone will say 'look at that knob'. That's atleast £500 off the asking price. I bet the salesman couldn't believe his luck.... Hey lads, I've sold the Knob car!

The wife: Hi Paul, nice car. I see you put private plates on it.

Saabs, real Saabs, ended with the 9000. Anything after that was basically a Vauxhall in disguise, and the drop in quality that brought with it was huge.
My immediate family have over the years owned between us four classic 900's (two 8v Turbos, one T16s, one Carlsson), two 9000s (both 2.3 litre high pressure turbo), one early 9-3 convertible (the only non-turbo we ever had), a late 9-3 Aero, and an early 9-5 Aero.
The only one we still have is the 9-5 Aero, which is the best of the GM era cars, ... but still not even close in quality to a late 9000 CSE 2.3 turbo.

And I now have a V70 T5, ... and still miss my Saab 9000 :-(

Really didn't rate the 9000. It just felt like any other car and was the model that started Saab's descent into manufacturing euroclone cars. I don't buy the Vauxhall in disguise stuff either. The GM platforms were hugely re-engineered at huge cost, One of the reasons Saab became economically unviable. But, no silk purse ever came from a sows ear and the GM models were dynamically hampered by the GM platform regardless of Saab efforts to minimise the damage. I loved my 08 9-3 convertible, I don't doubt motoring journalists could and did find fault with this and that but I would have another tomorrow. It was quick, comfy, stylish, relatively frugal and although it pains me to say it, better than the c70 vert I owned and loved

I fear it may be the same with building cars. So perhaps refuse to grow up.
No chance for me then, I built the 3-wheeler, and play in two bands (well I did before it all stopped!)

But then, as I’m well over 70, it’s probably too late to worry about growing up....
