Default Servicing and Coronavirus

I got the service due message in the car this morning, but the dealer is closed due to the virus.

So my question is how long can you go without a service, and will failing to get the car serviced affect your warranty.

I'm not a high mileage driver, average is about 8k per year. The virus will obviously reduce the mileage I do in the months ahead.

Email Volvo UK - only they can give the authoritative answer.

Use a garage which is open...?
So long as the garage (is reputable and) uses quality oil/filters your warranty will remain intact. Or is it on all that is the issue?
You don't want to do too many more miles on the oil as it is rather compromised already and degrading faster the longer it is used.

here's the answer:

Thank you for your email.

We are very sorry to hear of this. We can confirm that if you are not able to get your vehicle serviced or MOT'd due to COVID-19 we can confirm that your warranty on your vehicle will not be invalidated.

Thank you for contacting Volvo customer relations.

Best regards,

Will

My local dealership - Clelands of the Borders - has also closed for now. At least my motors are out of warranty so no great problem there.

If you can, why not buy the oil, and filters and replace them yourself? The most critical is the oil and maybe the oil filter. Not changing the air filter or spark plugs is not really going to cause any damage. If you are unable to do the oil change yourself and not planning to use the car that much (less than 1000 miles in the next two months), then it won't be ideal, but it won't be the end of the world either

I'm afraid all of that is outside my capabilities. I'm 80% disabled and have arthritis in my hands and knees.

As far as mileage is concerned. unless any emergencies turn up , the only mile's I'll be doing is the 11mile round trip to the local supermarket each morning.

I've emailed the leasing company I got the car from to see what they think, but I've not been able to contact them by phone, so they may be shut down too.

I thought most modern Volvo's were 18k service intervals. If you are only doing 8k you will be fine for a few months

It's the 12 month service that's due.
