If folk are that concerned about breathing the air there are plenty of masks available at very cheap prices.
In cities in Japan it is mandatory to wear such a mask if you have a cold. If it stops cold germs they will stop nox particles.

Who's science says the air is harmful? Seems to me the eco cause has become the new religion, and a zealot will always find a way to rais taxes off the faithful.

Military surplus stores hold large stocks of respirators that use carbon filters , let them help the small trader economy by buying unwanted military kit .

I would also dearly love to see a report published into the true cost of recycling lithium batteries and their like & exactly what potential toxic waste remains afterwards .

I vote for Bristol to be the preferred site for the UK spent Lithium Battery mountain

I haven't read all of this, so apologise if this has already been covered, but:
I really feel that banning all diesels over a certain age is too blunt. These days, with joined up IT systems, they should be able to ban any polluting vehicle.
MOT records integrated to ANPR on approach roads could be made to work.

I keep my older diesel well maintained. So well maintained that on its previous two MOTs they haven't been able to complete the emissions test as they were too low.

I've seen newer diesels visibly more polluting than mine. How to draw the line?

One thing which I'd love to see the figures on is pollution from both vehicle production and destruction.
I reckon that for me to do what "they" want and scrap a perfectly good vehicle to buy a new low emissions vehicle would create more pollution that keeping the old car maintained.

Bristol is banning all diesels (from a small area). It doesn't matter if they are brand new or not...

The MOT only measures smoke. Bristol has levels of NOx which are higher than believed safe. Therefore an mot test is no indication of whether a vehicle is contributing to a NOx problem.

Ironically NOx is formed mostly under high engine loads, such as accelerating away from traffic lights. Not ideal when Bristol has been aiming to cause congestion for years...

It seems you don't understand what NOx is... NOx are nitrogen oxides, a similar size to oxygen or carbon dioxide. The mask would need to be an air tight seal to prevent inhalation of NOx...

My nose is good enough for me , walking up a hill with slow traffic starting and stopping all the way up in still air ! 90% diesels of all ages .

It is not banning diesels over a certain age , it is banning ALL diesels of any age ...

Quite frankly im getting completely fed up with being told what to do and not by governments that seem to move goal posts on a weekly basis.
Banning this, drive that ,eat this then a u turn later on.
Im at the point now where if im preached at so much that it's having an opposite effect .

But things change. Would you rather just be left alone to keep on polluting, even though we now know that NOx emissions are potentially just as serious as particulates and CO2?
