I sometimes have a similar issue depending on the garage (seems to be worse at my local Shell for some reason!)
Instead of putting the nozzle straight in I tend to twist it round to the left (so on my C30 the handle almost rests on the bulge under the window if you see what I mean?) and it seems to work without a problem

Similar problem when filling my V90 I've found it's better not to ram the nozzle right in, and not pull the pump trigger right back. The fuel pump can fire diesel/petrol in quicker than the tank pipe can accept and therefore causes the pumps pressure sensor to cut the pump out. pain in the backside at times. click, click, click Oh for F@$%s sake...

Fuel stations are called "garage"? You learn something new every day.

There is a little stopper in the fuel filler opening to stop stuff from falling in. Fuel can hit this and splash back into the nozzle. If you control the fuel flow at a lower speed, this should not happen. Other way is to pull the nozzle back a little, so it has more space for the sensor.
