Default Fuel tank locking ring tool wanted.

Hi all,

I need to get into the fuel tank on my 2002 V70 so need the special round tool to remove the locking ring. Does anyone have one they no longer use I could buy?

Thanks.

Default DIY special tool

You can fabricate yourself one from a 110 mm diameter pipe.
I made a tool like that and used it a couple of times.
Pics attached.

I just used a couple of very big flat blade screwdrivers braced against each other which worked to successfully open and close those tank hatches.

Those are both really good ideas! Someone has already "had a go" at the locking ring in the past and some of the fins have broken off already so i'm reluctant to use a pair of screwdrivers.

The correct special tool part number is in Vida.
You can then use the part number to search and find decent aftermarket equivalents.

They're about £25.

I had a go at this today and used the "crossed screwdrivers" method of removing the tank locking rings, it worked a treat!

There was plenty of grit in the fuel pump, all now removed and the car now seems to be pulling much better than it was. I haven't yet tried to provoke it to go into limp mode but will do next time it's safe to do so.

The flow rate from the filter seems to be around the same though, all that grit obstructing the pump inlet on the pump removed and the pump can only manage 100/200 ml a minute more than it was doing before. Perhaps the pump is on it's last legs. Aftermarket pumps available on Ebay are rated at around 200 L/H whereas i'm only getting around 70 L/H from the fuel filter at best.
