Anyone with CEM wiring knowledge?
Hi all,
Been having an intermittent issue with C30 1.6d 2009 accelerator pedal and have narrowed down the fault to somewhere in the CEM, possibly lose connection. I have just removed the CEM board to give it a clean with some contact cleaner and check all connections for any corrosion etc. Everything looks ok and healthy. However, when replacing the CEM and reattaching the wiring Ive noticed that an orange wire was pinched between the connector block and the safety lever clip thing, and has broken the sheath and exposed the copper wire. This is on the large brown connector block that attaches to the underside of the CEM. I removed the wire from the terminal and was going to cut it and try and reuse the connector piece crimped on the end of the wire, but decided against that and have just used eleci tape for now, and replaced everything. Does anyone know what that particular large brown connector block to the underside of the CEM feeds/connects too? And more importantly, is it connected to the accelerator pedal. Its hard to tell you exactly which orange wire it was, there's a few. All I can say is it was 4th position up on the left (1st terminal position is empty /no terminal), with the connector block facing upside down. I think it was position/terminal 12 on the block. I have looked on Vida at the EWD but it doesnt break it down enough for me to identify whats what. I'll attached some pics. Thanks for any help 👍🏼 Last edited by VolvoRob38; Sep 18th, 2019 at 16:52. |

OK... little update here.
I still dont know what this orange wire is for but I haven't noticed any specific faults yet while driving. But with regards to my pedal sensor issue it has been suggested to me that it could be the terminal at the corresponding connector at the cem, white wire from the pedal sensor. Green connector to the underside of the CEM (connector G), pin 7. I'll attach the shared image. Just posting this incase it can help anyone else. I am not replacing it just yet, waiting for the issue of stuck on 1500rpm to reappear. I'll report back when I know more. |

I've no idea what your orange wire does but looking at your pictures, if there is no damage to the conductors inside I would stick with the electrical tape. Make a neat wrap around the wire and move it back into the loom with the others. Maybe add a cable tie to keep the wires together. Trying to remove and replace a single connector from the block requires specialist tools, there is a tool to remove the individual connector and you really need to use the proper crimp tool to attach the new one of you can source one.
My experience of the connector blocks under the CEM is engine cutting out and all sorts of warning lights on the dash. This was due to a broken retaining clip which was fixed with a large nylon wire tie around the plug and socket concerned. I can't say for certain but I think the large connector block on the top of the CEM at the right is the harness for the engine bay. That was where I found the faulty connection which was stopping front wipers working. That may be the place to look for throttle cables. Last edited by Missing Lincs; Sep 19th, 2019 at 20:12. |
