Default Struts

Hi there,

The struts on my Dad's V70 are worn out. Its got 152,000 miles on the clock & its bouncing all over the place. Does anyone know if there's any "Quick struts" available for this model that come fully assembled, so its just a bolt-off/bolt-on type of job? I only seem to be able to find fully assembled struts for the p2 model, but its a p3 shape on a 57 plate.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't seem to be able to find any anywhere, apart from cheap brands that I've never heard of. Can anyone help?

It's not hard to change the springs over, why do you need prebiult struts?

The springs have to be removed to change the top mounts and I did the job in 45 mins once I sorted the tool to remove the strut from the lower wishbone which has to be done to change the strut anyway.

For ease I guess, plus all parts are new. I've rang dealerships for quotes & I was told not to bother replacing the strut mount as an example because they never give any trouble. I've never heard such nonsense! I don't see the point in going to the extent of replacing a strut on a car with 152,000 miles and re-using parts off the old one, as those parts are bound to be worn too.

I need a detailed diagram ideally of the strut layout on this particular vehicle so I know exactly what parts to purchase to replace the whole strut & all the associated parts. It appears buying the parts individually, as opposed to buying a pre-assembled one is the only way to get a decent/recognised brand.

Can anyone help with the diagram?

I used Vida as it shows every part and number to make sourcing everything simple.
If you do DIY, even if you don't want the Dice tool, it's crazy not to have the software for the parts catalogue and workshop manual on their own.

Thank you for your reply. If its not too much trouble, would it be possible to send an image & list of part numbers of the front spring assembly of a V70 p3 model, or is the software that you have only for your S60?

The parts catalogue is fantastic. How much is the software?

Thank you.

Vida 2014d contains a parts catalogue and workshop manual for around 30 years worth of Volvos.
Your model type isn't sufficient though so I would need your 17 digit chassis number.

If you buy my new, tested and guaranteed working Dice @£100, Vida 2014d comes with it.

If you want Vida only, I can give you a guaranteed working setup for £30 providing you have a suitably specced laptop.
Vida is free to download and install from many torrent sites though if you want spend nothing and do it yourself whilst negotiating the many possible pitfalls.

I'll get the VIN number for you. I appreciate your help, thank you.

DICE with VIDA 2014d sounds good, but I wouldn't have a clue how to use it haha. Do I have to have my own laptop for that?

Yes, I baught a cleaned ex BT rugged note book off ebay for £80, it came with windows 7 pro and once everything downloaded and installed has never been connected to the internet to avoid the automatic windows updates that screw you.

Some do it with vertual machines on modern laptops but that is technology beyond my comprehension.

Yes.
If you don't have a suitable one, I can supply the Dice tool and a laptop already set up with Vida 2014d for £250 delivered.

It's not dead money either unlike paying a dealer for a diagnostics read as if you keep everything in good order, you can sell it on and recoup most of your outlay when you no longer need it.

Just let me know on my thread here if you want either the Dice or Dice and laptop.
