That's good to know, I don't have the diagnostic kit yet but it's on my shopping wishlist! I just used a gauge on the port, it's part of an STP kit.
I've just finished the CV joint job, having spent ages rebuilding the inner joint that I foolishly popped apart while removing the old outer joint! Better end result than I expected though since I was expecting to lose all the gearbox oil when I removed the joint to reassemble it but only dribbled 500ml max... Now I still need to check the specs for the 5 speed manual and top up but I don't have to replace the lot at least! Note to self, next time you need a CV joint either be bloody careful with the inner or just replace the whole shaft! Serpentine belt went smoothly though, even I can't mess that one up haha.

Well.. Maybe not exactly today, but over last week:
Changed inner and outer steering rods, had 4-wheel traction zeroed next morning, deeper wash (all the grooves and what not, like under roof rails etc), applied a bit of OCD- trims restored to black, clean, hoover, dust, check fluids, pressures and so on.. Loaded up with everything I could think of- from seeds for allotment, trough wine making glassworks, some tools clothes, ending with sh**loads of jars with every kind of preserved fruit you can think of (thanks, mum- suspension is grateful) And then drove some 1300 miles or so.. Made it back yesterday evening, I'm supposed to be back at work today. Hard to imagine. Cars still shiny, though

replaced both front shocks, quite easy really,
replaced the NS (left hand side RHD car) bit of a panic when drive shaft wouldn't slide in to new hub, got it sorted so all good, so Thursday morning new front tyres tracking then off to get the MOT retest done, so fingers crossed he'll be good to go

Poured a couple of gallons of diesel from a can into the fuel tank, following our second "false empty" (both times just as we got home, thankfully). Going to have to investigate the pump when I get time to make a lockring tool for the sender units/pump.
Replaced the headlamp wiper blades & enjoyed the climate control... Good luck for the MoT Sparkey.

Good stuff
Just finished replacing a couple of transistors in the HU850 stereo, not got the LF33 regulator yet but hoping that is the key to no more clicky clicky... Also got the RTI unit working, clean up of the DVD laser was all it needed, bit of a fiddle to get the unit apart since it requires the drive stripping down to access the laser with a cotton bud & alcohol. Now that's done though it reads the disc OK. I really think it's more a case of dirt getting in the unit due to it's location than it is of actual failures. (Still got fingers crossed though, and can't use it with sound until the stereo is done).

Did a few small things
Tested my UV light to seek for A/C leaks (found none) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5teYOnZqWuM Tried to fix a problem with my brakes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGU-glkL2B0 And finally got myself a little treat with this fluffy S80 seat cushion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGtD-skiJcc

I filled my caravan with as much essential stuff as I could find (including a second fridge accommodating a pleasant amount of cider) and have dragged it across the country. It never ever ceases to amaze me how well my ‘05 D5 pulls, far better the (significantly newer) Isuzu that I use for work related events....

Obviously I spoke too soon and I got a worded warning regarding a failed headlamp bulb....
I have a stock of 10 bulbs hiding in the footwell. I’d bought them because I was sick of changing them and paying Halfrauds prices:- postmark on the package was August ‘15 and how there are three left. I still bloody hate changing them though. |
