Default V70R No Alarm

Hi All,

This may be a bit of an odd one. I've been googling about this but can't seem to find anything to do with it.

I have a MY2004 V70R, which i'm not convinced has an alarm installed at all.

There's just a blank plate over where the usual red LED is on the dashboard. Locking the car, then reaching in a few minutes later and pulling the handles does not trigger the alarm.

I noticed as well that there are no wires going to the glassbreak sensors in the rear. Does anyone know if these were produced without an alarm from factory?

There are no signs that the alarm has been removed, everything down to the wiring looms looks factory as anything. There is also no siren unit behind the wheel arch liner.

I have the 5-button key with the panic alarm, but this triggers the horn alarm.

Both my 2008 S60 & 2003 V70 D5 had the red LED and an alarm installed.

no alarm button next to the cigarette lighter either? usually there's one to switch off internal sensors for dogs

that is bizarre, I would have thought anyone who paid out for an R model would be sensible enough to specify an alarm.. assuming it was an option and not a standard feature which seems more likely

even then it seems daft not to have that blinking red LED at least as a deterrent

Nope, no alarm button.

I always thought it was standard, seeing as our D5 is absolute bottom poverty spec trim (beige cloth seats and not even a mirror in the sunvisor )

Where the red LED usually is, there's a perfectly fitting blank which is shaped the same as the LED holder. It just looks too perfect to not be a Volvo thing.

Is yours a Japanese import? I have the same suspicion about mine, but haven't tested it yet, but I have the same setup as you.

VIDA does list an alarm though

It is, yes. Tried again to trigger the alarm with all the usual steps, reaching in and opening a door, waving my hand around, rocking the car etc. nuffin

No alarm related errors either on the dash or VIDA, so it's like the car was programmed from factory to not have one.

Apparently it's a established fact that Japan has low rates of car theft? Learn something new every day

For example

Also saw some BMW comments and a jaguar owner saying the same so it's across the board. I wonder why that is maybe they're just more honorable people. Or more likely the owner knows karate, hiiiii-yaa

Here's what Vida said about mine, also an import so it seems exported R's weren't fitted with them

VIDA says exactly the same for me. Something else to add to the shopping list.
