The problem i have with value is that its on normal insurance, not classic insurance, as this was our main car.

That silver 850 TDI has been for sale a while now. I don't think it is as good as the photo's may suggest for the money. Maybe ok at £1500 to £2000 but not £3100, although the 850 diesel is a very rare animal these days!

Doesn't matter - they are contracted to cover your losses - i.e. fund a replacement car. For lots of reasons some cars, new and "almost" classics are hard to value at the moment. Some insurers now offer to source replacement cars and have them delivered (newer models obviously).

So arm yourself with adverts, stand your ground....

It does sound like your car is a write off, even if the front subframe doesn't look bent, it probably will be. I believe fitting a subrame from a C70 convertible is popular mod as they are strengthened.

Wouldn't be the first car I've straightened the chassis by reverse impact, last one was done with the aid of a 5T ratchet strap and a lamp post

I crashed my £660 T reg V70 weeks after I bought it, offside damage, the towbar eye is bent downwards. No garage would touch it as the jig would have been crazy expensive. Best advice I had was find a long chain and a large tree and reverse a few times...

The damage is sideways, so i cant just pull it. Also, one side of the chassis is pointing up slightly so needs to come down! I have sourced the parts i need for less than £100, i just need the chassis a bit straighter to fit it all. Its a bit frustrating that i might end up having to strip it for parts!!

Is there nothing you could attach the car to with a ratchet strap and give it a pull sideways? It should bend back before dragging the car. How far out are the mounting points to panel it up?

well the nearside leg is about 20mm too high and around 15mm over to the right.
The offside leg is about 20mm too far to the right. When the bonnet shuts, there is a 20mm gap between the bonnet and the wing, tapering to nothing as you look up to the bulkhead.

There's no real damage to the wings, front inner panel or bonnet, other than a small kink at one corner. I can live with that. Basically the accident just sheared off the complete bumper with brackets. Like i said in an earlier post, the sub-frame underneath is fine. The car drives straight as a dye! and stops as it should. Even the broken headlight works on main, dipped and side lights, just the glass has broke.
