The Merc is the second coolest car in the school car park - trust me!

If it's raining?

Also the 7/9xx range are probably less common these days than those Mercs as they have already been preserved. I do like those particular Mercs though, especially the 450SLC......

I believe there was also a limited edition 560SLC - large shoehorn involved somewhere methinks!

When I was at primary school the other children thought we were rich because my father drove me to school in what they said was a Rolls Royce. It was a Volvo 164. Worth a bit if we still had it! I have tried several times to trace it with no luck.

Chances are it woludn't come out in the wet weather.

The 5.6 litre lump went in easily; and the older W108/109 saloons had a 6.3litre cast-iron dry-sump SOHC V8 - with swing-axle IRS. That would have been really entertaining in the wet.

The fact it's a 7-seater is a big tick in its favour. Once we get back to lift-sharing it will be epic for play dates and after school clubs. And, give it 4 or 5 years, it's going to be the ultimate Dad's Taxi.
Only possibly fly in the ointment is the nipper is growing so fast. Only just 12 and he's already got size 8 feet and is around 5 foot 5. Is there an age limit for the boot seats?

I'm a little biased - my best mate's Mum had a red 350SL which previously belonged to Nanette Newman. We were driving around in either a Morris Traveller or Viva HA at the time. Not that my 8yo brain really appreciated such things but she also gave Ms Newman a run for her money in the phwoar stakes.

There's a weight/height limit for them and from the sound of it, he's already too tall. I'd have to do some research to be sure but i think it's 4 stone/25kg and 4'8" (1.4m?) from memory.

With just one kid in the extra seats, if they nod off (and slump down/to the side as kids often do on a journey) then wake up when you brake, they tend to sit up and stare wide-eyed out the back screen, scaring the bejesus out of the following driver! Always a source of great amusement!

The rear facing seats should have a label specifying their height and weight limit, I can check mine later if yours is missing. I've also got a fold down booster in the middle of the 3 forward facing adult seats.

Anyway for folks following my saga I have an MOT on Friday! I think it should pass but am concerned they will think my exhaust patch is where a secondary lambda sensor has been removed when in fact it was only the blanking plate fell off and had to be replaced. I am staying for the MOT in case there are any disputes! It's boosting well and running really nice.

Good luck for friday, as long as your patch isn't leaking, it shouldn't be a problem - MoT stations see enough different vehicles to know some manufacturers use multiple positions for Lambda sensors and blank those unused.
Any secondary Lambda sensor on yours would be downstream of the cat but it doesn't have OBD-II so it shouldn't need the secondary sensor.
