Default Recommend gearbox oil change around Cambridge or Northampton

Hi all,

Looking for a recommendation for gearbox oil change around Cambridge or Northampton or in between!
I used the contact form for Avalon and didn't get a reply. Horton is a bit out of the way for my current schedule of places to be.

Thanks,

Sean.

If you want to perform the same full atf change as Horton then look on the EDT Automotive site to find the garages in Northampton, Kettering or Cambridge who use their machine and take your pick

Thanks, I've sent them a message to see what we can find!

You could do it yourself and save about £150, its quite straight forward

I've read some threads on doing in yourself, I'm a bit tight on space and without axle stands/ramps etc to get under the car - unless I'm mistaken and it's all possible from above?
No response from EDT about finding a garage yet...

You need to get underneath the car to undo the drain plug on the transmission. This job can’t be done from the engine bay alone.

Not that I have used it yet but I bought an electric pump with a narrow dip tube that can be lowered into the sump from the dipstick aperture and pumps out the oil without removing the sump plug. I bought it in case the DPF regen aborted and dumped fuel into the sump but I suppose I could use it to drain the sump prior to changing the oil. I suppose it might not pick up all the sludge from the bottom of the sump but I would rather like to avoid lying on my back under the car to change the oil. Older owners might appreciate this preference!

Problems are only getting worse. I stopped at the bottom of an off ramp today - letting my foot off the brake pedal, nothing happened until I accelerated then an almighty jolt - I considered the car behind had run up the back of me for a moment.... or I have a very sticky brake problem... I'll phone Sigtrans tomorrow to at least see if I can get the oil changed. With car prices being inflated, I'm torn as to what to do money wise...

It really would be worth your while coming across to see Graham at Horton Cars for an expert and realistic appraisal of the issue and your options.

Have you got a link to the electric pump? I have a manual oil extractor that works well, but I like the sound of an electric one even more.

Note, these extractors won't work for a transmission fluid change on a P3 Volvo (they will for oil changes though). There's no transmission dipstick that you can put the hose on the pump into. There's a drain plug underneath the transmission, but as soon as you undo it, the fluid starts pouring out. A dipsticks for the transmission would be handy.
