Hello Morsing
The first arrow is guiding you to push the handle in, the 2nd is showing you the direction to turn it as you remove the bar from receiver. I've made a video of me attaching the bar and of what happens as you push & turn the handle https://youtu.be/k9pkYNorOhA Apologies for quality of video. Unfortunately the only assistant available has paws and was unable to work the camera. |

has it been on the car and you took it off? maybe it was always fitted and over time just corroded so not as smooth as it should be.
is there any chance you could try to split it down to give it a good clean up and put back together? I have the simplest wheel lock on the carvan (like https://www.halfords.com/motoring/ca...mp-371336.html but at least 15-20 years old) and the lock wouldnt work after a few months. a liberal greasing and ensure there wasnt any crap left and smooth as anything and liek new, so may just need some TLC to bring it back. All it takes is a pin that is moved by a spring or something to get a bit cruddy and not run smooth for the lock to stick.

Hi,
The towbar was in the boot of the car when we bought it four years ago, then in the garage since. Ruby, thanks for the video. The more I look at it, the more I am convinced my handle is 180 degrees out of whack. I will try to do a video later. Regards, Henrik

It may have been forced past the point and that is why its difficult to move as i do believe these can stick or have issues. https://www.google.com/search?channe...cult+to+unlock
I still say see what you can do with removing bits/etc and then rebuild and lube back up.

I've removed the little screw, but have been unable to remove the lock handle.

If the handle works properly, you have to turn it to unlock the towbar from the socket in the car.
As an additional safety measure, you are not supposed to be able to turn it without first pressing it in, towards the towbar. Hence

Hi all,
Took it down to Volvo and the verdict is... It's broken. They ordered me a new one at £200. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Took the handle off and flipped it round the right way. Works but not perfect. The lock seems to do nothing, but I think that's because for some reason it doesn't go far enough in to green for the lock to pass the bit of protuding metal to stop it moving back. Also, still cannot figure out what the pushing down is for. Even looking at the mechanism, it appears to have no use... Thanks
