940 blower resistor

Blower resistor has just failed this morning, only works now on full blast. What are my chances of refurbing the old one or should I just order a replacement?

Depends how and where the original has failed really. Would pay to remove it and inspect to see what the damage is and confirm that is indeed the fault.

Has worked consistently on all 5 settings until yesterday, was on 1 and then stopped. Now only 5 works. Motor is fine. I guess I'll have to pull it out but I didn't want to be without it at all (Cornwall being super damp) - I'll see the price of new first, Scandix say 44euros!

The 940 blower resistor is a ceramic coated module and fairly robust, so if its actually failed forget refurbishing. I've never heard them fail, whereas it much more common on other cars like the 300s with open frame coils and thermal cut out (which rusts).

AC will be different to non-AC, I think , but go for a used part before spending a ton on brand new parts. I did have a spare AC resistor some time ago from my spares car, god knows where it is, if I still have it.

Anyway do not just assume its the resistor. I think the switch is more likely in these. In any case diagnose first, then replace parts.

I'm non-AC and it still works on 5 (full blast) so 99% that's the resistor unfortunately.

I've sold quite a few non A/C and A/C resistors. They are usually covered in oxidation, it might be worth removing it and cleaning all of the oxidation off of it.

For those interested in such things bypassing the thermal fuse and it worked just fine, so have ordered a couple of those on Ebay and hope to be back in business soon!

Can you post a picture of the module? I've never looked at my non-Ac module.
Is it open frame?

No problem, here you go. Don't be too unkind about it's appearance, it does still work

You can see we've cut the thermal fuse, still waiting for the Ebay replacement to arrive.
