Default InCarTec 39-VOL-01

I'm changing my radio from a Pioneer double DIN to a more up-to-date Android unit.

All good so far apart from the steering wheel controls - volume and channel change. I have a CAN-Bus interface that worked OK with the old unit but even though the new one is supposed to learn is doesn't like my interface.

I've found a possible replacement that is supposed to support Chinese Android radios with 2-wire resistive remote connections.

My question is, has anyone got an InCarTech 39-VOL-01 in a pre-facelift (2000 - 2004) V70 or S60?

Having asked questions of InCarTec tech support by email and getting zero response I decided to bight the bullet and try the 39-VOL-01 interface.

The great news is that it works with the car and the Android radio

If anyone else is changing radios and wants to keep the steering wheel controls the 39-VOL-01 says it works with all the mainstream brands of radio eg Pioneer, Sony etc plus Chinese brands like Xtrons and Zenec.

InCarTec also make a 39-VOL-02 interface, essentially the same as the 01 but with another lead included for cars with a separate factory power amp.

I know it's a bit late in the day for updating radios in a 21 year old car but I really like using Google for navigation, having it on a bigger screen and built into the car is worth the effort for me. I had navigation on my old Pioneer radio but keeping the maps up-to-day was getting more and more difficult and costing a fortune for maps that were never quite current.

Android auto is brilliant technically it is possible to screen share and just have the phone screen showing on the dash but I looked into it and it involves rooting your phone and some other jiggery pokery, I gave up in the end

Voice commands though make the whole thing so much easier. Call home. Navigate to xyz. Play such and such. I hardly ever touch the screen other than to fiddle with the eq now and then
