Default Possible DIM failiure?

I think i'm starting to have the dreaded DIM errors on my '04 V70R.

Randomly in the morning, when everything is cold I will get a plethora of warning messages come up, which will then go after a few minutes, these being (so far)

(roughly translated from japanese)
AIRBAG SYSTEM SERVICE URGENT (Airbag light comes on then off as usual)
COOLANT LOW (Coolant resv is topped up correctly)
LOW BATTERY (Batt voltage when this came up was about 12.4)

I may have also been imagining it, but last night I thought I saw the text on the dot-matrix display flickering and distorting a little.

Have plugged VIDA in and the only DTCs I had was for a door lock sensor from the CEM.

I'm considering sending the DIM off to volvodiagnostics for repair, but wanted to see if anyone could shed any light before I pull the trigger.

Thanks

This is where I'd look first. P2 Volvo of any flavour HATE a low battery. Check to see its holding charge. Also the R uses the longer (IIRC) type 019 battery rather than the shorter type ?????? - sorry can't remember code - Tanya batteries will give codes.

Lucus there is a top guy. I'd certainly recommend him, and suspect I'm not along in that matter.

Cheers

It's recently had a new battery, probably less than a year ago and it holds charge no problem. I may have another laying around I can try.

Forgot to mention, that 12.4 was with engine off, ign on. Charging voltage sits between 13.8-14.3 so that rules the alternator out.

Dim faults were amongst the early 2000 DIMs without silver rings around the speedo and rev counter but at 17 years old, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that similar could happen on the "newer improved" DIM. Basically, don't rule it out.

My 2002 DIM had garbled text, correct text but the characters were reverse/mirror image and no main beam warning.
I've just replaced another 2002 DIM which would randomly shutdown completely and when "working", individual dials would randomly peak then drop to normal or read zero.
When I say replaced, it was removed, sent to Lukasz to do his magic and refitted.

The recently replaced DIM had DIM fault codes stored in Vida whereas mine had no fault codes so you can't rely on codes or lack of to be definitive.

The SRS service warning is probably due to the DIM failing-mine was. Had it fixed by the place detailed above and it's fine now.

Stuck the battery on an external charger for a day shortly after posting. Haven't had any issues since (about 3 weeks ago).

VIDA scan still shows all clear.
