Default C70 D5 Auto gearbox

I have a problem with hard downshifts when the car is hot and been driven for a while. This has been going on for a few weeks then last week the gearbox warning came up on the dash and it was stuck in 4th gear, I guess this is a limp mode as once I restarted the emgine it was ok again.
I spoke with an auto gearbox expert who, without seeing it, said it would be about £2,500 GBP for a rebuild. I intend to take it to a specialist who want to see/test the car before quoting.
I assume the worst case is a recon gearbox, I have seen them on ebay and the like but are but they are adverised as XC90/XC70 etc, does anyone know if they are interchangeable I.E. will a gearbox from any model with a D5 engine fit my C70?
thanks...

I can't reply to your PM for some reason. I fixed mine by removing the shift solenoids from the gearbox, opening them up, cleaning them out and then changing the box fluid and finally re calibration with vida dice.

Thanks for your response, was it an easy DIY job?

There is a guide on this forum, it's on the xc90 bit I think. It's not the hardest job in the world but I wouldn't say it's easy. It depends on how competent you are.
