Default 16 to 18"

Hi there this might sound like a daft question, but if you change your wheel size (16" to 18") do you have to have your speedometer calibrated, the reason why i ask is i saw a police tv program today and they mentioned it on there many thanks

Smile Wheels and tyres

Good question, as I have just bought a 2005 V70 SE D5 with 18 inch wheels (which seem to catch the inner wing area when turning).

The speed must be recorded inaccurately (under speed with larger wheels).

The tyres I have fitted are 235/40R 95Y, and even though the alloy wheels are nice, the price of the tryres is not.........so I am looking to go to a breakers yard for some original wheels - 17" I think.

I think that if you're changing from 16" with a tyre profile of 55 to 18" and a 45 profile then you wouldn't need to recalibrate your speedometer.

16-->55
17-->50
18-->45

Are all the same size, but wait for other opinions, don't take my word on it just yet..

Sorry, 45 profile on an 18" would be 9mm higher than a 55 on 16" providing both were 205

My V50 (2007 model) was factory modified to accommodate the larger wheels see the attach http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories...VCC-251722.htm which refers to instruction to restrict the turning circle, add rear bump stops and alter speedo calibration.

Hope this is of help.
