Just had to have the front discs and pads changed on my 2004 T6 after only 23k miles!

Luckily Kings in Southampton give discount for cars over 3 years old so the cost to me was £325 fitted.

Ouch.... Genuine Mintex pads - £17 for TWO sets (1 sent in error, but told me to keep)
OEM front discs - £47 for the pair - Couple of hours labour - Nil... On my last car - Merc ML270Cdi, I got a pair of slotted and drilled EBC discs PLUS a set of their "Green Stuff" ultra low dust, fast road pads - for £190 delivered, and the improvement in braking was unbelieveable - pity they don't list a set for my XC

Got them from an Ebay seller - Will see if I still have his details when I get home - I think the "spare" set still has the invoice stuck to them.

Actually, just had a search:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-XC90-2-4...d=p3286.c0.m14

Mintex pads and front doscs - Buy it now £83.00 for the lot...

EDIT - Forget Ebay if you are going for the EBC pads alone - get them here:

And there is a further 10% off at the checkout, and free delivery

Thanks Mike. I just checked the site and they now list Green Stuff pads for the XC90.

My wife took the car to "Pro-tyre" to get the pads & discs replaced and they advised this was to be carried out by the main dealer only and they could not source the parts. The cost at main dealer is £375. Am I getting ripped off and can I not just take it to Kwik fit or A.N.Other? I need the work done very quickly so would appreciate any advice given.

Thanks,

Mike
Mine will need front and rear pads and discs soon. The Volvo dealership quoted something approaching £800 parts and labour, but a local and respected garage will do the job for £580 using genuine Volvo parts. I also found they can shave £120 off the price of a 60k service, again to Volvo standards. Not a tricky choice for me in this day and age....

The Volvo Owners Club pages contain a list of Volvo specialists, who usually have far more reasonable rates than the main dealers, as well.

Thanks Roy; excuse me for being daft, but where on the forum is this?

Also, I'm aware of some Volvo 'specialists' not too far from me who trade on the name but don't come up with the goods, hence my vote on an outfit who are old fashioned mechanics whilst being plugged into new technology!
