Question USB Stick Max Length?

Hi - I'm waiting for delivery of my V40 - still a couple months wait left. I want to buy a USB memory stick so I can put all my music on one 64GB device (with lossless compression). I want a quick one too, but these are usually longer. Please could someone let me know the max length available for a USB stick before it fouls the centre console lid? I don't want to buy one only to find out it doesn't fit.

Many thanks.

Nice one, thanks - I wasn't sure as the manual says about needing a cable between the stick and the plug if running a longer one which obscures the lid - so I assumed there was little room.

Plenty of room , but a short USB extension cable would take any strain/wear from the socket .

I-S pointed me in the way of these, it's not 64gb but it will easily fit underneath and shouldn't get caught and put any strain on the socket.

Thumbs up

Thanks tt82, I considered that smaller type like you linked, but they typically copy at 6MB/s, whereas the larger faster ones copy at around 120-200MB/s. The smaller ones would therefore take 3 hours to fill up 64GB. The larger type will only take 10 minutes - quite a big difference.

These are the ones I'm considering:
SanDisk Cruiser Extreme 7.1cm long.
Corsair Voyager GT unknown length.
Kingston DTHX 7.5cm length.

So worst case, is there at least 8cm available in the V40?

In an XC60 centre armrest there is over 6 inches, and the usb slot is set low down. Perhaps not helpful in your case, although perhaps a quick call to a dealer to ask them the depth on the 40?

I have a pny like this one
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computi...77429-pdt.html

It is not fast like you want, although it is only 3cm when the top bit is folded. Maybe they do a faster one? 3.0?

Also got an Integral which is 6cm. Have a look at The Kingston Data Travellers, they are only about 6cm long, and 3.0 and fast as you require.

Regards

Hi Volvorocks - thanks for the reply. The 3rd on that list is a Kingston Data Traveller, they sort of changed the 'Data Traveller' bit to DT as it sounds cooler I guess. It is pretty high on the list so far.

Hi m8
Check out the cruz usb sticks good price and the cases are stainless steel full sleeve (no wobbly bits)width only the width of the usb socket it plugs into(I had same problems trying to access xbox usb sockets recessed on front panel.)
The cruz black usbs very recently were on sale at tescos for 16gb@£8.00 each so I bought 4 and they all sit on a key fob great but I think you just missed the deal.
I can thoroughly recommend them for strength speed (got movies on mine)and quality. Just keep your eyes peeled for deals.

Hope this helps
