VIP Event with Huge savings ??

I've been getting texts from my local Volvo dealer in Maidenhead about its "VIP Event with HUGE savings!" which lasts for 4 days and requires booking an appointment.

Is this just a marketing drive or do these so-called events offer good deals that you can't get the rest of the year? Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I had the same messages from my local dealer around the time I took my car in for its last service. I spoke briefly to a sales rep when I was there and the discounts (less than 15%) didn't seem that attractive and certainly not enough for me to consider changing cars at the moment. The used car events that crop every now and again that offer 0% finance on used purchases sound quite good, but I wonder if the fact it is restricted to a single weekend weakens your negotiating position and presumably you are restricted to the cars only sat on the forecourt at that time.
