Default Infotainment software update failure

I wanted to get the latest software so I can update maps etc so booked the car into my local dealer. £99 quote rather than the lower price you other savvy people have found.

Vida reported that the Infotainment unit was not the same serial number as the one registered on the Volvo main computer so software will not load. The only solution is for the dealer to delete the security software, load the update and then download the security software again. Adding £50 to the bill. So said no, I will keep the old maps.

Still have no idea why the module is not the "original" one. I have never changed it and it is the right model for the car. Maybe, a warranty change before I bought the car that never got registered.

Anyway, a warning for anyone asking for a software update.

The security should be disabled before doing the update regardless if the radio doesn't match up or not otherwise you can get lots of issues!
