I was sold my pre facelift T5 by a volvo parts dealer - he had fitted "police spec" which was 320mm that's all the info I have

it should have came with 305s

You can fit either 316 or 320 to any P2 pre or post facelift so your pre facelift having 320mm retro fitted doesn't really mean anything.

It's all moot to be honest though because 316 and 320 are only 2mm different around the circumference and use calipers which look almost identical so the performance will be all but identical and no one's going to notice the difference visually.

yea i dont get why the 336 use pads only slightly larger, I guess it was more for shedding heat than for bigger pads to grip bigger disc

The main braking improvements are from the pads operating on a longer radius and having more meat on the disc to dissipate heat.
The physical pad size is less important.
