Default Vida/ battery Advice

2010 D5 r-design

Can anyone recommend a decent replacement battery/cost to buy
Seem to have different ah ratings?

Just had low battery sign come on dash and radio display 😖
New dice I’ve just purchased will connect to car but not when I try the diagnostics so I’m wondering if this is anything to do with it???

you must always have a mains power supply ( charger capable of 10 amps minimum ) ( 13.8v minimum ) connected across the battery when Vida is connected , do not write off your battery yet until you have charged it for 24 hours and then tried it .

If you do need a battery get one from the dealer , ask for discount and it will your best deal ( even without discount )

Absolutely correct.

I may need one soon and the Main Dealer have given me a cracking price on a 100 Ah for my XC90 D5.

They always give me a discount

Tayna also offer superb price and service but to my mind in the event of a warrany issue, it's easier taking it back to my local main dealer seeing as their price is so competitive.

Unless what I'm doing specifically requires engine off, I have the engine running when using Dice and Vida and I advise my Dice buyers to do similar.

If the diagnostics problem remains with the engine running, battery voltage isn't the cause.

You would probably get a larger discount if you were to dig one of your old uniforms out and wear that when visiting the parts counter Darryl.

I’ll try and describe this in plain terms.

The XC90 uses a huge amount of electrical power when the ignition is on.
If the engine is not running, only the battery supplies this power

A weak battery will not be able to deliver this for long, you can easily have a low battery warning after just 10 minutes.

When I diagnose with Vida, I turn off everything I can: radio, nav, interior lights etc, and then hook up a charger. I only have a 5A Charger so cannot power everything, but can prolong the time before the battery is low..

So have your engine running or use a big charger of at least 10A to supply power to the car when diagnosing.

Smile Good battery is about £98

Hi, well I have been keeping my original Volvo battery ticking along but last week decided to bite the bullet and get a new one.
The trigger was having VIDA connected and getting a constant 14.4 volts when the engine was running, but switching the engine off and the voltage on VIDA dropped from 12.5 to 11v within a minute or so. Cranking had been slow but it has never let me down.
Not bad for 13 years and 154k miles on the original battery.
I read articles on here the the starter draws about 200-250 amp, so largely irrelevant of the battery does 800 or 1000 amp, the original was 800amp 90Ah.

I planed to get a dealer battery with discount and 3 year guarantee, but came across the Bosch S4 013 in Costco at £98.38 inc VAT with 4 year guarantee, which is cheaper than Tayna online.
Perfect fit and the car has never turned over as fast in the 7 years I have owned it.
TIP 1 - the battery comes with terminal covers, attached to one of them is the vent blanking plug, there is a vent at either end, one connects to the original Volvo vent, the other needs blanking, some of the batteries were missing the terminal covers and hence the blanking plug.
TIP2 - Costco put a stock control sticker on their batteries with the month and year it came into stock, some had been on the shelf a year, probably not a big issue but I picked a new one to be safe.
Good luck

what voltage should I be getting on the battery?
tried a multimeter was getting 12.1v (nothing turned on)
engine running was getting 14.4 v
tried cranking it, dropped to about 10.2v

thank you
