Had our T6 for nearly 6 years and wouldn't swap it for a dirty diesel.

It must be driven calmly and/or low mileage, so the gearbox is never too stressed. I think the problem is many people boot them and the box can't take it.

I believe there was a lawsuit in the US, and indeed the issue was widespread and unfortunately Volvo took no responsibility in 90% of situations.

i am not known for driving steady (look at my cars and bikes!), We also tow a 23ft twin axle caravan. Awesome piece of kit with none of the core plug and transfer issues of the diesels. Also smooth and quiet with plenty of power which we definitely use.

I don't wear rose tinted glasses either. I am only on the forum now after such a long time off because we had ignition barrel issues.

You probably won't like the look of their faces when that two tonne T6 suddenly grinds to a halt one day with no gears

Interesting. But unless your car has a different/improved gearbox for some reason then it is still carrying the same problem that can surface at any time. They all work fine until the day it slips.

You know, I think the reason you don't see many mentioned on her is in fact they have a more reliable engine than the Diesel version, I guess some diesel owners are jealous of our performance

We know we have a doggy gearbox that one day will become useless, but we don't have the amount of issues the diesel have.

I wait with the knowledge it will fail one day, but so will a diesels intercooler

All the T6 scare mongering keeps the prices down so it suits me. I know the gearbox may become an issue at some point but my transfer box, core plugs and starter ring wont, so a fair trade. With LPG it also costs me the same to run as a diseasal.

Box that is in mine at the moment has done 139000 hard miles.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Hopefully you and your diesel wont get stuck on a field or in the snow with shredded splined sleeve, or find oil all over your drive because of a failed core plug, or heaven forbid, it wont start because the ring gear has stripped, or you find you suddenly lose power on the motorway in the fast lane, all of which are diesel issues.

I am all for warning people about the issues with T6 gearboxes before they buy the car. If they still decide to buy a T6, then thats up to them. But once they have, don't be rude about their choice of car.

I have changed the gearbox on mine, because of a drive-shaft failure. The second hand box I fitted has now done 139000 miles. I am very happy with my T6 and I am fully aware of all its potential issues. If I had my time again, I would buy a T6 again.

I fully support giving people buying advice, or advice when they have an issue, which after all is what the forum is for.
