Default 2nd Row Rear Seat not Folding - Possible Cable Stretch

Hi,

I've had a search and found a thread for the MK 1 XC90 rear seat folding issue, I've also found one for the MK2, but there were no helpful comments and I'm not sure the fault was actually the same as what I have.

I've only owned my 2018 XC90 since May 2021 and I went to use the left 2nd row seat folding handle about 2 months ago, but it would not work. I bought the car from Volvo and it has a Selekt warranty.

Today I took the car in for them to have a look and the warranty company have rejected the claim for a complete seat frame as the dealer is saying the cable is 'stretched'. Volvo have said a goodwill gesture of 30% towards the eye watering cost of £1450. I don't think so.

Apparently the cable is not available on its own and there's been no mention of any adjustment.

Now I'm a little frustrated that I've come to use the seat for the first time and it isn't working. The car was diagnosed at a different dealer to the one I originally bought from, basically we've had a poor experience from them so I've tried a different dealer.

Has anyone got any experience in replacing or adjusting the cable and if so, how do you get access to it?
How does the seat come apart?
Can the cable be replaced by itself?

Thanks

I am struggling to see why this is not covered. It has a Selekt warranty which is supposedly a gold plated peace of mind warranty from a main dealer. They cannot just reject the claim. If it is not due to consumer abuse then they kind of just need to sort it out. Rejecting the claim just because it "seems a bit expensive" is not really the deal.

That's the kind of attitude I got, I mean don't get me wrong the guy on the phone was really good with me, but I don't see how this is my fault, it's just a handle to flip the seat forward. I've just been and had a look at the seat and the one side is actually unlatching, I can feel the difference when the lever is pulled and looking under the seat I can see it moving. But the other side does nothing.

So no one has any experience of this in the MK 2 XC90?

Would appear not. It is not something I have ever heard of on these forums over the past 6 years.

This is why I'm doubting the diagnosis of the dealer. I really can't see how a 3 year old car can have a stretched seat release cable unless the previous owner used it on every trip.

That would be my thinking as well, if there is no movement at all from the catch, and the feel is very different between both sides then I would suspect part of the mechanism has broken rather than the cable.

Agree with everyone else on the thread, a stretched cable seems unlikely, and it not being covered by warranty is just not acceptable, push back to the supplying dealer or Volvo UK.

Its not really similar, but I had an issue where the centre booster seats mechanism wouldn't release, the dealer diagnosed as the cable coming unclipped and re-attached it.

When did you buy it. If the fault occurs within 6 months, it is up to them to prove it wasn't like that when you bought it. If you haven't sat on it too long, exercise your consumer rights with the supplying dealer. https://www.whatcar.com/news/your-le...your-car/n3307

OP said bought in May 2021, so would possibly just fall within 6 months?
