Default Idler Bush Issue

Hi
MOT time and I have a question about idler bushes on a 1970 144.

There was excessive play in the idler bush, so no problem ordered a new SuperPro polybush (the Australian one) however, when it arrived it easily slipped into the hole by hand – ie. It was too loose.

Had to return the item and order a bog-standard non-poly one and that fits fine. Shame as it most likely won't last as long.

The ‘female’ hole (sorry, crude but effective terminology) has a little light scoring but is in good shape.

Has anyone else had this scenario before?

I should add that the supplier has always given a great service, so it’s no reflection on them. Could it just be a duff part?

Thanks

Very common problem and as the quality of rubber drops the problem get worse. 164's will kill the rubber bushes in days

There is an answer from Holland

Thanks mate - so I do about 10,000 miles a year and generally don't hoon it...what you reckon - replace in a year? two years?

You'd think if you are paying 40 odd quid for a bush it would fit nicely!!

The rubber one should last to the next mot.

The metal one should last the life of the car if serviced. And that could be a very long time!

I just spoke to the supplier and turns out a polybush has been fitted - but an alternative to SuperPro and thankfully not a rubber one....so that should last well.

Thanks for your help
