The price of parts is okay, but the labour cost is very high.

Totally agree. Have you been given an hourly rate or a time for the labour?

No hours quoted for labour, the guy is a mobile mechanic (80 mins travel) and this being France tax for self employed is very high.
Labour rates at independent garages are 40-50€ per hour so if he is using the same costing formula then that’s 5.5 hrs including travel therefore, 4 hours to do the brakes? |

That still seems a lot for labour, I'd have expected more like 2-3 hours. You're paying a lot for his travel time too, can you not find someone a bit more local? If I were you I'd at least get some competitive labour quotes.
Also, none of this is particularly difficult, why not do it yourself?

This isn't a job that requires specialist Volvo expertise or special tools so any reasonable local garage should be able to do it.
Is this one too far away? Garage J.Courtin 12 Route de Piégut, 16220 Montbron, France +33545707432 |

Montbron is 15 mins away. I’ve booked it in at Maury (they fitted the tyres for the CT) in Nontron for next Friday - 225€ (2 hours labour). The only thing he couldn’t order was the TDC sensor - I don’t know how vital it is? Also, I fitted a new Varta battery today - ordered it at 15.30 yesterday and it was put over the locked gates before 9.30 this morning!!! I know Amazon is taking over the world but that’s great service for rural France. Steve |
