Failed Update
Hi all,
I've bought new map disks for the car and they are exactly the right ones but my system has been stuck on updating for days. The car was plugged in tio a charger and i left it 4 and a half hours and its not moved since... I'm assuming i need to hard boot reset the sat nav system to try to reset the update - does anyone have any suggestions ? I'm using the right disks, the car was charging whilst updating but its just doing nothing... Any suggestions? Last edited by NMB; Sep 18th, 2020 at 12:50. |

What is the MY of the car?
Are you sure you have newer nav system with a HDD? Confirm by reporting the versions that your nav is indicating P2 XC90 Pre-facelift (2003-2006): DVD-based MMM nav with Europe DVD map set with different DVDs for different regions of Europe P2 XC90 Post-facelift (2007-2014): HDD-based MMM+ nav with Europe DVD map set of 2 DVDs which contains all of Europe and is installed onto the harddrive via DVD SPA XC90 (2015-): HDD-based Sensus nav with Europe set of downloadable files installed to the harddrive via USB stick Check also the DVD, see my post when I updated my HDD system: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...Nav+Dvd+update The new 2018 map disc (2 DVDs) is sold as a 2018 update: Map P/N 32214049 AA (shown on DVD as "Includes map 32214049") Map version AEU_06_201701A, which is a 2017 map DVD, released early 2018 SW version 00002308/02400 (unchanged) DVD Name EU-3350-00_1 (and EU-3350-00_2 for DVD2) VCC part no 32214046 1748 Data Version 17/05/16/01 (which is 16.05.2017) I have the HDD based system If all appears correct, then: What errors appear in the diagnostics menu of the nav? Did it detect that a disc was inserted? Did it obviously start the loading process by starting to read the disc and show messages on the screen? Does the system come back to life if you eject the update disc and insert the previously loaded DVD?

Hi Swiss,
I have the + system with the HDD installed. I have the correct maps and disk one just sits wiring away with no progress. I can cancel it out and use the Sat Nav but on every start the map update resumes. P2 XC90 Post-facelift (2007-2014): HDD-based MMM+ nav with Europe DVD map set of 2 DVDs which contains all of Europe and is installed onto the harddrive via DVD There are no error messages of any sort and i can hear the DVD accessing but there is no completion of the update. It just does noting and i have left it on charge for hours. 1) The disc is inserted and the system asks for the flap to be closed then the update continues. 2) The old disk cannot be used as a ner map version is in use - please re insert. 3) I have conmplained to the disk provider and they sent out new disks - no difference. 4) I have the correct disks Is there a way to reboot the system? |

Sounds like the laser in the drive is failing or dirty and not reading the (lower quality) copies of the discs.

Did you check the nav diagnostics? These are accessible from the nav system itself (and not from VIDA or any OBDII tool), however it is possible that once the update process has started that the OS has been wiped, and without an OS, the nav cannot listen for key presses and thus may not go into diagnostic mode. Try it. Generally, any disc reading issues are caused by dirty / old / weak lasers

... and/or non original discs... Are you sure, your disc set is original? Or is it a "cheap" set from eBay?

And note that copied / burnt /pirated DVDs do not reflect as much light as a pressed DVD (eg: Volvo original), thus they may not work so well.
Thus when a laser is weak / old / dirty / cold / hot a copied DVD may fail whereas an original pressed DVD may be fine. I have seen exactly this with my own eyes on other nav systems.
