Default Idiot!!

So after returning from the morning out.
I pulled up on the drive, reversing in and after turning the engine off, I couldn’t remove the keys from the ignition!
I tried several times, tried to start the car up, nothing.
Went in the house to get the spare key, to see if I could put the alarm on the off, nothing, I’m swearing and cursing, how could this happen?
Went online and thought, I’d better download the Vida, recently purchased from Cheshired5, to see what was wrong!
The key would turn, but not come out of the ignition barrel.
Twenty minutes later.......

Realised I’d left the car in D!!

FFS, really!.........Anyone else manage to this?

Welcome to the club

Imagine a really dark night in the middle of nowhere in Florida, after a ten hour flight - a rental car - and a short stop to p**. One and a half hour later a grinning and laughing towing guy... At least we got in time to Disneyworld to get the free breakfast.

Happens to me more often than I'm proud to admit.

I always put the car into Neutral and then apply the parking brake. After that only do I put it into Park. I can easily get distracted by something during that last part.

I think I read somewhere that your procedure is correct i.e. Neutral - Brake - Park to take the load off the transmission or something.

I must admit I usually do Park - Brake unless I've really tried to remember the correct way...

Cheers

Dave

Being confused by sluggish acceleration because the handbrake is on hasn't been unknown to me.

I definitely reckon the handbrake left on may be next!

I jumped into another car today and went to let off the handbrake with my left hand down by the steering wheel (Left Hand Drive), and found nothing.

Damn, where's the handbrake, I thought.... and then found a switch in the center console...

Glad I am not the only one doing that!

I do similar swapping between our 2 cars. The other has a traditional handbrake lever. I have been know to try and do both types at the same time.
