Hi,
Just to let you know that a number of our insurance schemes offer discounts for a wide range of approved in car cameras.

Roy,
I think that you may be correct, the angle of my windscreen is too steep for the suction mount.
Did they use this one?

Thanks,

tem.

No, but I think they should have ,as it would fit fine and be easier to remove the camera as it's a simple knurled wheel to unscrew. They are impossible to slide out. I'm just talking to Roadhawk about it at the moment. They used this one...http://shop.roadhawk.co.uk/roadhawk-...ount?filter=12

Your mount and the slightly longer one supplied, I cannot get them to fit without using excessive force. Roadhawk are posting two new mounts today.

The mount that I asked you about fits very well, along with the suction mount. Unfortunately, due to the angle of the windscreen, the lens of the cam is too far away from the windscreen, with the suction mount.
Video is ok, but due to the wide angle lens, the cam is filming the dashboard.

I measured the width of the slot on the cam and it is 11.4 thou wide.
Measuring the two mounts that are impossible to fit, are 12.3 thou wide.
As there is no give with the cam slot, 12.3 does not go into 11.4.

Hi tem

Well Roadhawk have asked me to go back to Volvo as they say they should not have fitted them if they were that tight. I pointed out that all the mounts were tight and felt it was a manufacturing issue but they still wanted me to go back to Volvo. I bought another mount from Roadhawk so I could move the camera to another car if I wanted but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I know my Main Dealer is very good and will sort it but it just seems a waste of time to me as Roadhawk will have to deal with the issue at the end of the day.

The finish on the cameras is very none slip as well which does not help with the problem of sliding them in and out.

Assuming you do not have the oversize mount shoes, there is another possible problem with removal of the cam.
If you slide the cam fully onto the mount shoe, a locking lug clicks in, making it almost impossible to remove the cam.
I tried it with the suction mount and had one h**l of a job, removing the cam.

The mount I sent you the link on is by far the shortest one. Even shorter than the one that has no ball mount on it.

I've found it's the finish on the camera that is 95% of the problem. I put a tiny amount of silicone lube on the T piece of the mount and wiped it off. Now I can slide the camera on and off with firm pressure without dismantling the mount. I think they need a looser fit with some sort of locking knurled locking nut to lock it in place. Or a slipperier finish and tight tolerances on the T piece and also quality control on the size of the T pieces they send out.

Be aware the camera finish is unforgiving if you spread the silicone lube around too much and it's easy to pick it up on your fingers, so be very careful if you are trying that out.

I've got a Blackvue dashcam, and had to fit a wedge between the screen and its mounting pad. On an XC60 it couldn't be fitted in teh middle as it got in the way of all teh electronics and of my view of the road. So it is top right corner where it can still see through the swept area.
It took a lot of fiddling around before I was happy with the siting and used the double sided permanent pads to fix it.

Default Roadhawk and XC60

Hi,

My XC60 was in for it's second annual service today so I took advantage of the opportunity to get a front facing Roadhawk camera fitted.

I don't think that the dealer had done very many. The first position they proposed was "specified by Volvo" and was virtually in the line-of-sight of the driver in front of the passenger and probably not safe in a collision. They then put it higher up but I now get 30% of the picture being obscured by the mounting behind the center mirror. Are other peoples installations obstruction free? The GPS didn't lock on so I suspect that that may because it is too high as it is virtually at the top of the windscreen. It's not helpful not having a live video feed for alignment.

How easy are the sticky mountings to remove? I'll be calling them in the morning to discuss and probably sending then the pictures from this thread. Are there any ones showing the inside of the installation?

Thanks,

Simon
