Question Advice for a second hand purchase XC60

Hi,
I'm a new member from Belgium and I'm thinking of buying a second hand XC60.
I was wondering which issues I should look for when checking out a nice second hand XC60. Hopefully you guys will be able to aid me in this quest.
I'll be looking for a front wheel drive (I want a max of 2000Cc) automatic (so 2.0T or T5 for Petrol and D3 or D4 for diesel, though no AWD), but I'm a bit in doubt if I should go for a diesel rather than a petrol version.
I do about 20000 to 25000km per year.

These are my questions:
Which main issues should I be looking for when checking out a second hand XC60?
What are the pro's and con's of powershift vs geartronic and from which year did Volvo switch from one to the opther? What's to be noted as to performes, reaction speed of the gearbox, consumption, etc...Geartronic seems to be a bit better (???) though as this is newer, this will also be a more expensive purchase second hand or is this assumption wrong?
What are the main differences between D3 and D4?
I'm in doubt if I should go for a petrol or diesel (taxes in Belgium differ quite a bit) Which one would your recommend and what do your XC60's consume in reality (out of the above mentioned versions)?

Thansk in advance for your help.
Regards,

If i was you i would steer well clear of any car with a powershift gearbox,

Personally i would get a 5 cylinder diesel, D4 if i was buying a 2wd model

Thanks, though can you tell me a bit more about this?

Any more tips/answers to my other questions?

Thanks!

I don't think there are any powershift gearboxes in the models you are looking at. They are all Geartronic or manual.

Try using the Volvo configurator to see all the options then look at what's on the second hand market.

Diesel is king in our area. Very few petrol cars. I have an AWD D5 so my consumption isn't much use to you but I get 40 to 45 mpg.

Hmm, When checking the online second hand market, almost all models from 2011 and onwards still have powershift automatics, except for the most expensive onse, but those are also the latest models (ie. it's logical the newer cars with lower mileage are more expensive).

What kind of consumption should I be looking at (both for diesel as petrol versions)?

P:s consumption of your D5 seems to be really low compared to what I was expecting...

Like I said mine is AWD. FWD will probably be around 50 mpg. I would think.

We don't have a Powershift option on those engines in the UK. They are all Geartronic here.

Only the old D2 has a Powershift option in the UK but that isn't an engine you mentioned.

Have to say that I don't recall a petrol XC60 ever being available in the UK, it was sold in NL as I recall though.

Petrol SUV's aren't very popular in the UK, hence the demise of the XC90 V8.

I did take a look at the D3 D4 D5 engine cars that the OP asked about and none that I saw were Powershift, which is why I thought it must be a non UK car.
