Possible new Owner - Sensus or Sensus Connect?
Morning All,
Im looking at a journey up to look at a new XC60; it is a 15 plate R Design Lux Nav D5 215bhp AWD. My Query is I have read that that 2015.5 facelift came with Sensus Connect; but have also read about it upgrading? If I have the 2015 as opposed to the 2015.5 will my sensus update to sensus connect and as a result the olny main difference is the engine? or am I missing out on more? Many Thanks! |

As it's a Nav version you'll get Sensus Connect - the Nav needs the Connect platform to operate (you'll also get the larger screen as a side benefit). In terms of upgrades, that's a software thing, so at the next service the dealer will upgrade the version as part of their routine. The only significant upgrade that some dealers didn't install was the one to allow the creation of an in-car wifi network from a tethered phone. A quick look through the my car menus will let you know if this has been done (under Internet Settings).

was that not for MY14.5's Andy.
I thought the MY15 had the functionality already, anway it will be the latest version of sensus connect with the apps and should be updated with your service. |

Could well be - I wasn't sure, hence why I mentioned it'd be worth checking the MyCar settings. If it's there then the car has all the updates needed.

You cannot upgrade Sensus to Sensus Connect. However, as andymcp said, there have been various updates to Sensus Connect which friendly dealers will do free of charge. |

I haven't used SENSUS or SENSUS CONNECT,but as far as I see on youtube reviews it's pretty slow...So slow in fact, that's almost useless...
1.So:is it true?it's that slow? 2.Any chance of things becoming smooth with an software update? 3.Is connecting your phone(calls/contacts) part of SENSUS or it's a separate thing? |

The speed is rather dependent upon how fast your mobile data connection is.
If you tether a phone then you have the benefit of 4g - assuming you get 4g - if you pay the additional cost to have the SIM card installation then you will be limited to 3g as that is all that the car supports. Personally my view is that the whole connected part of Sensus Connect is a massive triumph of marketing over actual substance.

Can someone tell me what the benefit of having the in-car wifi hosted by the car is over everyone just using the phone as the host ?
I know there is a limit of 5 devices on some Android phones (do not know if this is an Android limit or hardware specific), will the car extend this and merge communication with the phone through a single pipe ? If not, what is the benefit of adding another layer to the architecture ?

Only advantage is if you have Volvo-on-call installed then you can share that with other users - but it will only be 3g
If you have have phone that can share then you would be better using that, especially if it has 4g The only other advantage is that having the WiFi means that you can connect to your home wifi if it reaches to the car, though as you cannot upload anything to the car this way I am also struggling to see the benefit.
