Everyone is so law-abiding at the Walton-on-trent bridge. They stop immediately when the lights change to red, when you could easily get a couple more cars through each time. There were two cars in front of me, the lights started changing to red and the one in front stopped, the second car overtook him and went through on red and I followed him. The idiot beeped as we passed! Dumbass!
There was a line of cars on the bridge that we quickly caught up with, obviously you can't just go through on red any old time there, haha! With temp lights, if I can see the opposite light set up and there is no one about then I go through on red. Why would you sit there like a ****?

What is so wrong with being law-abiding? If you intentionally go through a red light when it is possible to stop safely, then you are breaking the law. The Highway Code is very clear on the matter.
The only exception might be in the event of lights malfunctioning with both showing red, in which case it may be sensible for someone to direct the traffic until the Police arrive. Regards. John.

And he has to live with it. You, on the other hand, may (and I don't wish for it) find yourself in situation where you decided to go trough on red, not knowing that just behind that "idiot" who stopped is a young mother pushing a pram. And then you will have to live with it. So.. Who's the idiot here?

AMBER means Stop at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident |

Not really trying to contradict, yet I was taught that amber means, indeed, stop.
Unless stopping requires sharp and abrupt braking, ie: turned amber when you were already too close to stop line, or, indeed already crossed that line. The only difference I'm pointing out is that you may still need to brake harshly to stop before stop line in your set, Mike, mine allows to cross AMBER without shaking the load on the back of the lorry or inconvenience passengers. Nevertheless.. RED MEANS STOP. UNCONDITIONALLY. And I don't even find it a matter of law. More of common sense- it is red so someone else gets green, and you don't collide. May be tram, may be pedestrian, may be another car. OK.. OK.. I'll shut up for a while now

It's not something I do though have seen it done. As for tempory traffic lights I treat them the same, I've been the one working in the TM and it's there for a reason, no one spends upwards of £500 a day for traffic management that's not needed.
All you red light jumpers, may I suggest you never visit West Wales, we have a very active roads policing unit and they are always out and about in their unmarked cars. Behave or be booked, you have been warned. Saw 2 being booked in a mile and a half trip from town to home only tonight, unmarked 3 series BMW. Vosa is also very active on the trunk roads, A487T and A44T so make sure your hgv is up to the mark. Paul. |

I've Been Banned

I have occasionally been on only nodding terms with some aspects of law and order, but jumping red lights seems like a selfish and potentially dangerous thing to do. Certainly if I was broadsided by a light jumper, or god forbid, my Mrs or daughter, the ensuing discussion about the rules of the road would be brief and succinct. And extremely one sided.
