The challenge is subsequently getting to the battery to reconnect it. There would seem to be two ways: Unlock the drivers door with the key in the lock, then reach behind and open a rear door, fold down the seat and climb in. You can, just, open the cargo floor with the tailgate closed, but it's an awkward thing to do. The other way, I guess (I've never done this), is to hook up an auxiliary battery to the positive post under the bonnet just to enable the central locking to be operated. But I don't know it this may carry a risk to the electronics.

I think it depends upon the year, model and original order spec - neither of our V70s (2001 Torslanda & 2004 SE T5) have the black rubber covered hidden key slot up above the right hand of the end of the rear number plate on the same panel face as the number plate light.
However, our 2005 C70 has the key slot exposed next to the number plate - I know seven seaters that were either supplied by Volvo or converted by a Volvo dealer have both the key slot and internal handle to comply with UK safety specs.

But that's an awful lot more trouble than using the positive post under the bonnet - it's under a flap between fusebox and airfilter.

Agreed Stew - but you can't get into it if you can't unlock the deadlocked door because the battery is flat -

I used one of these on my L322 Range Rovers
https://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/tow-el...e-etc-p45.html (well I made one up myself) to work with my Ctek charger. No unplugging of battery, don't even need to unlock the car. Knowing how temperamental Rangies are with electrics/electronics, my guess is there shouldn't be a problem doing the same. Have tested on the V70 and get a live feed.
