Most important question. Who supplied the parts? Can't blame the garage if you supplied faulty goods!

That doesn't exist, does it?

Skin them alive, no matter did they mess up by coincidence or by incompetence..

If. IF I go to a garage to get something done, in 50% of cases I end up working together with mechanic. Or alongside. Like last time- we changed CV gaiters together, and whilst he was refitting the wheel and lowering the car, I fixed his work light and checked few other things "underneath".

What happened to just being nice to each other?
I presume that “skin them alive” is tongue in cheek.
Agree about working with the mechanic if one can build up a good relationship and they are happy to permit this. I am able to do this with a couple of my local independents who I use intermittently, but always paying the going rate for any work done or time spent. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the main dealer or the local Volvo indi specialist as customer just cannot get past reception, probably due to insurance and health and safety.

Thanks to all for their responses... In all fairness the garage have been right up front and have done their best to resolve the issue... It seems, or is being suggested to me that The EGR valve that has been fitted was not OEM and that the software is having a bit of a hissy fit so are upgrading the software by all accounts... Does this sound right to those with more experience in this area?

I have also had it suggested from another source to block off the EGR all together? not going to but just wondered what impact that would have
