Hi AJR

What year is your V70?

Sounds like you have a newish one. Same ideas probably apply.

But there is another forum for those if you have other questions.
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/index.php

Hope that helps,
Steve

As above, never heard of a P1 car with the battery in the boot.

You need to jack the car up and get under it at the front, put a jump or charger on the starter connection.

X reg so must be 2000/2001 P2 model, my old one had battery in the boot but iirc I could still lock unlock the doors using the key without the battery being connected

If you can get the bonnet open there's jump-start point just in front of the N/S suspension strut top that you can attach a positive jump start cable.

My fix crawling under the nearside front wheel worked - I couldn't get the bonnet open as the side light cover won't come forward without opening the bonnet and fiddling with the cable will probably knacker it as it opens two catches and if one only is undone, you're still stuffed.
your problem is the shaft from the key barrel to the door lock has broken , a common problem! You will need a new key barrel matched to your key number from volvo ..
I suggest everyone else try theirs from 850 to v70 1992 to 1999
