Totally disagree.
You had low pressure fuel available but no fuel at the rail and this erroneous pressure difference between actual and expected would have been shown in the live data on Vida.
Your options would then be a failed HP pump (unlikely) a faulty regulator or faulty pressure sensor, both of which have detailed testing instructions on Vida.

Vida is fine. The way you approached the problem, not so.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing Honestjohn, I have Vida but wouldn't know where to go much past the basic stuff.
Well done on getting it running after such a massive rebuild!
Look forward to seeing your write up.

It's not a patch on simple, logical fault finding.

If only it were that simple for those of us that don't use Vida very often...

In the example in this thread, with the car in front of you, there are very few reasons why fuel on the low pressure side would not make it the rail.
You just follow the pipework and eliminate the possibilities one by one and a £5 ELM327 dongle for rail pressure figures a £5 multimeter and Google would give a similar outcome to using Vida in this case.

If you had a blockage or flow problem with water in your house, you'd probably suss it very quickly (and without diagnostics ) but for some reason people think fuel systems are massively different when they're almost the same.
A liquid moving from point A to point B with some bits in between.

If you delve into Vida, you might be surprised at just how much you already know.

Thanks for the update! I'm looking forward to your update on the rebuild. I think my engine is probably going to need the same thing. I have 160,000 miles and a similar oil consumption issue.
