I have even considered buying a lap top with serial port and pre loaded software and obd11 cable , you can get these for about £200. I dont want a basic code reader , it would be nice to see waveforms and voltage outputs from things like the 02 sensors etc but again is this expecting too much considering that at the moment all I may need is an OBD11 connector costing about £15 ? What really put me off just buying a code reader was seeing one for sale in Halfords for £215 and thinking thats a bit steep and then seeing all the other gear available on the internet for a fraction of the price . Any advice please .

What year is the car.

Diesels did not have to be OBDII/EOBD compliant until 2004, the earlier Volvo ones weren't compliant.

its a v70 D5 registered Dec 2003 and , it does have an obd11 socket but dont know if that means much ? I realise now than scantool and other free software and the cheaper analysis gear probably wont work ? and the vct2000 looks just a but too expensive to be worth it for someone like me with just one car to look after , the way the value is dropping the vct2000 will be worth more than my car soon , will keep looking

Question Is there a volvo list?

I got a couple of codes from my 2001 V40 (auto), I can look them up as Ford codes but is this right?

P0717 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal
P1500 Vehicle Speed Sensor Intermittent

I guess ignore the 1500 a,d see if I can find the sensor for 717.

Post the codes in the main part of the forum in a new thread.

Make sure you include the model year and engine code from your car as manufactures codes vary between engines and model years.
