Default Unleaded - clarification 760 turbo

Sorry to bring this up again - I know you will be fed up hearing about it! I have had the chance of a 1988 760 2.3 turbo, but according to the list elsewhere on the site it could use superunleaded. My recollection was (according to the 700 Volvo handbook) that all models from 1987 onwards could use unleaded without adjustment. Was this not the case??

Many Thanks.

Default Unleaded

I used to have a 1989 760 Turbo Intercooler, this ran fine on unleaded, as you say everything after 1987 would run off unleaded.

Prior to this Volvo I had a 1986 740 Turbo Intercooler, this ran off leaded, but I found Optimax was a great substitute.

I have two 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo's and they both run fine on standard Unleaded.

Super Unleaded is handy when running more boost than the stock settings as you'll be able to run a few more psi without hitting detontation.

The following is the listing that Volvo produced when unleaded fuel was being introduced.
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/unleaded.shtml

All 700s can use unleaded, but not all were recommended for 'normal' (95 octane) unleaded - they still require 4 star (super unleaded). It wasn't until 1993 that all new cars (legally) had to be able to run on 95 octane unleaded.

RoscoMac, Your 760 Turbo has the B230ET engine which means that you should only use "Super Unleaded" fuel such as Optimax or Ultimate in your car. The ECU is set up for this grade of fuel.

All the best, Peter.
