Default A couple of questions

Not posted for a while, largely as the 2006 XC70 D5 has been fine for the last 15k miles, including MOT. It’s also had an oil and filter change along the way and a new dipped beam HID bulb (that was a bit of a pain!)

Anyway, a couple of things now need fixing:

1. Some ‘passer by’ decided to use my near side mirror for kicking practice and I now need a new rear cover. The mirror itself is fine and fully functional, it’s just the cover. I’ve not managed to find one in the unpainted grey finish that I’m confident will fit the car - it’s the squarish mirror. Does anyone know of any options other finding a used complete unit?

2. I’m getting regular, but intermittent, engine service required warnings. A good motorway run usually clears it, but not always and sometimes it goes away in any case. A couple of times it’s gone into limp mode, but then cleared after standing for a bit. I’ll get the codes read in the next couple of weeks, but haven’t yet got a copy ofVida and would welcome any thoughts of where to start looking.

Cheers

Mike

Not got codes yet. I’ll get them after the new year and update the thread. Turbo sounds like it could be a pain/expensive?

Thanks

A friend just went through your mirror saga. Salvage yards had expensive, complete units. The dealer price for the cover in grey was quite reasonable. He painted it with a can of "custom mix" from an auto parts store. I didn't even know such a product existed.....a broad selection of pre-made, acceptable matches, yes, but not bullseye matches. It came out perfectly.

Holding ones breath until the codes are read is the way to go.

I have a great, illustrated multi page description of your turbo charger from Volvo but I cannot get it to attach.

Well the mirror has been replaced with a expensive second hand one. Couldn’t get the correct cover for love nor money.

Meanwhile, I’ve now got an OBD2 reader and the only stored code was a PO404, which I think is EGR valve. It’s having an oil change next week, which I’ll ask the local to do as they’ve got a lift. I’ll ask them to check it out at the same time. Of course the engine service warning has stopped now...

Will update next week.

Thanks all

Mike

I noticed that, in another thread, Davebb said that boost pressure (manifold pressure) for the pre Euro 4 D5 (160bhp) should not exceed 15 or 16 psi.

I’m seeing 20 to 21 psi on my 2006 euro 4 185bhp D5.

Engine service required light seems to be linked to an egr code.

Is this boost level normal or appropriate?

Cheers

also mike what are you reading your boost with, a obd2 reader, or Volvo vida,
if it is with a cheap obd2 reader , that only reads the diag boost and will only read 1.5bar max, 21.5psi,

read the boost with A Real boost gauge,
Volvo vida, icarsoft 906,delphi DS150E, so it reads the max boost not just up to 1.5bar,
