Tailgate won’t open
Please help
The tailgate on my 2008 V70 2.5 will not open. It was all good yesterday but would not open today! The electrics would seem to be all working ok as I can hear the micro switch’s clicking and motors operating? I managed to pull away the top of the tailgate trim and look down onto the lock. After some feeling around I have discovered a cable adrift please see photo attached. This cable would appear to have been running into the lock from the left bottom edge (as you look out of the rear). It would seem to me that this cable could simply be reattached to the lock and solve the problem. However I cannot do this unless I can open the tailgate first! I have tried to find any information which could help but everything I find would seem to be for different model years? So can anyone offer any advice on how I can manually open the tailgate. I would be very grateful indeed. Thanks

Will it open if you press the button inside the car, near the headlight switch? (You may have to hold it for a few seconds).
I'm having the exact same issue on my Dad's V70. The boot won't open manually - I can only open it by pressing the button on the key or by pressing the release button inside the car, despite all doors unlocking fine.

There's a common issue with the loom in the rear for this generation (and the earlier P2 too). Worth pulling down the headlining rear panel and pulling apart these connections - squirting in some contact cleaner and see if that solves the issue.
Not sure how easy that'll be with the boot closed - but possible I think? Just factor in at least 2 hours of swearing/cursing? Volvo have written a guide for this which I've linked before but I've hosted it here again..... https://pdfhost.io/v/~5o2AYcEY_Volvo...ectorENpdf.pdf
