Default Sat Nav Stuck In Up Position

My sat nav is stuck in the up position. How did this happen? The DVD drive looks to have stopped working, it won't read the discs when I put them in there. I have tried cleaning discs (both wet and dry) and they don't fix the issue.
I'm not too concerned as I have a Garmin for the motorbike that I use in the car too so that isn't an issue. The trouble is, it's one of the sat navs that lowers and rises from the dashboard when in use. Trouble is, it's stuck in the up position and as the disc can't be read, I have no means of getting it to retract. Is there a way, without using the DVD menu to get it to lower itself back into the dash?

No, unfortunately not. The Sat Nav just automatically pops up every time the car starts and returns into the dash when the engine is switched off.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work? If it didn't rise and fall automatically, how would you bring it up and put it away? My ignorance because my XC70 has the Sensus system which uses the multi-purpose dash display screen. Your first post said " My sat nav is stuck in the up position", which is a different fault.

Will a long press on the enter button (about 2 seconds) make it go down? Can’t remember.
If not, and you don’t use it, it’s not hard to remove the screen, 4x screws under the mesh grille, then you could manually wind it down or junk it and get the grille off a non-satnav car.

Ignore most of that, thought I was in the P2 section! I’ll have a look at mine now.

Hi,

You need to use the satnav menu to turn off the satnav. Then it will descend.
It should, then, remember that choice
when you next start the car and remain in the down/off position.

Des. . .

And if the sat nav menu doesn't show up, the car owner is just as stuck as the display.
